Seth's Week 6 NFL Picks
My picks for Week 4 and Week 5 were the complete opposite. Everything that could go wrong, went wrong in Week 4. In Week 5, I nailed almost everything! Now in Week 6 it's time to take it up a notch. I want atleast 11 right!
I'm actually starting a new feature this week called Seth's Against The Spread Picks of the Week. If you want to follow my picks while you gamble go right ahead. But I warn you, I don't have very good luck with making picks!
I'm sorry for not getting this column out last week. My College's internet wasn't working from Thursday to Monday. But a new week in the NFL is upon us and let's take a look at my soon to be wrong picks!
Week 4 Results: 5-10 (YIKES!)
Week 5 Results: 10-4
Game Picks Overall: 44-33
Upset of the Week Overall: 2-3 (Selected Colts in Week 5 on twitter)
Eliminator Challenge Pick: 4-1 (Selected Rams in Week 5 on twitter)
Week 6 Picks (Bold Indicates My Pick):
Cincinnati Bengals @ Buffalo Bills: The Bills will be starting Thad Lewis on Sunday vs the Bengals. Just to let you know how bad this has the potential to be, I just had to google what the name of this Bills quarterback was. With E.J. Manuel sidelined, the Bengals should be able to win this one comfortably. Bengals by 14.
Detroit Lions @ Cleveland Browns: The Lions just didn't look in synch without Calvin Johnson last week and it sounds like he's a game-time decision. While the Browns are over .500 five games into the season for the first time since 2001, they will be starting Brandon Weeden in this game with Brian Hoyer out for the season. Even if Megatron doesn't play, I think the Lions bounce back this week in a big way. Lions by 10.
Green Bay Packers @ Baltimore Ravens: Ravens' left tackle Bryant McKennie has been horrible so far this year, so GM Ozzie Newsome went out and traded for pro bowler Eugene Monroe. With Monroe making his debut, he won't have to worry about blocking pass-rush extraordinaire Clay Matthews, as he will be out for a month with a thumb injury. The Ravens rarely lose at home and with Marlon Brown, Jacoby Jones, and Brandon Stokley possibly returning to action, the receiving corps could play the best it has all year long vs a bad secondary. Ravens by 4.
Oakland Raiders @ Kansas City Chiefs: The Kansas city Chiefs have started the season 5-0 and have a very easy schedule going forward. While I think this has some potential to be a trap game as Terrelle Pryor looked fantastic last week vs San Diego, I still don't think Oakland will win in the hostile environment of Arrowhead Stadium. Justin Houston may be the leading candidate for NFL Defensive Player of the Year through 5 weeks and he'll be a handful for Oakland to handle. Chiefs by 7.
St. Louis Rams @ Houston Texans: Both of these teams have been very disappointing to start this 2013 campaign. The Rams defense has been giving up a lot more points than I thought they would. They let the Jaguars stick around in that game for all four quarters...not good. Matt Schaub has been getting criticized non-stop for his four straight games throwing a pick-six. Whatever team turns the ball over less will win this game. I think Matt Schaub ends his incredible pick-six streak this Sunday. Texans by 4.
Carolina Panthers @ Minnesota Vikings: Another game featuring two disappointing teams. The Vikings QB situation is unclear as they just signed Josh Freeman to compete with Matt Cassel and Christian Ponder. Cassel will start this game and as long as he doesn't turn the ball over too much and hands the ball off to AD on every play, I think the Vikings will win this game. Ron Rivera is scorching on the hot seat! Vikings by 3.
Pittsburgh Steelers @ New York Jets: The Jets really shocked America with their upset win on Monday night in Atlanta. Now they host the winless Steelers in an attempt to improve to 4-2 on the season. The Steelers are coming off their bye week so they had a full week to prepare for the Jets. If the Steelers defense can finally force some turnovers, I think they can finally get their first win. I think Geno Smith is going to struggle in this one. Steelers by 7.
Philadelphia Eagles @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers: In the battle of inexperienced QBs, Nick Foles of the Eagles takes on Mike Glennon of the Buccaneers. The Eagles have an offense with a lot of talented personnel while the Buccaneers have a very talented defense. I don't know what to expect out of Mike Glennon so I'm going to go with the QB I've seen before in Nick Foles. Eagles by 3.
Jacksonville Jaguars @ Denver Broncos: Jaguars in a blowout.......wait for it.....okay yea I'm kidding but I thought about it! Broncos by 21 (Take +26.5, +27, +28, whatever the Jaguars spread line is!)
Tennessee Titans @ Seattle Seahawks: The Seahawks just don't lose at home. It also will help that they are facing Ryan Fitzpatrick who is very prone to turnovers. This game will probably be over after one quarter. Seahawks by 17.
New Orleans Saints @ New England Patriots: The Patriots may finally be getting Gronk back which would be great news for Tom Brady. The Patriots offense has been putrid in the red zone, almost every running-back on the team is hurt, all the wide receivers drop everything, and now that Wilfork is out for the year the defense can't stop the run. The Saints offense and defense look very polished and ready to go on a deep playoff run. It's hard to pick against the Patriots at Gillette but I'm doing just that. Saints by 7.
Washington Redskins @ Dallas Cowboys: Tony Romo had such a great game last week and I felt so bad for him after the pick that cost the Cowboys the game. Now they play on Sunday Night Football against the Redskins in a game they really don't want to lose. The Cowboys offense looks great, it's just a matter of slowing down the other offense. I think the Redskins have the worst defense in football and they show it once again here. Cowboys by 10.
Indianapolis Colts @ San Diego Chargers: There is going to be a lot of passing in this game. Philip Rivers did have a rough game last week against the Raiders but I think he'll bounce back with a solid game here. However, this Colts team has already beaten both the 49ers and Seahawks this year and I think Andrew Luck will carve up this Chargers defense as well. Colts by 10.
Seth's Upset of the Week:
Arizona Cardinals @ San Francisco 49ers: The Cardinals defense is a lot better than you'd think. They just got back their best linebacker in Daryl Washington and he came back with a vengeance with nine tackles, two sacks, three tackles for a loss and one interception. They are facing a San Francisco team that is banged up and not playing up to it's potential. This will be a full out defensive battle that I think the Cardinals win in the end. Cardinals by 3.
Seth's Eliminator Challenge Pick:
(I forgot to tweet my eliminator pick but you can see that I did infact pick the Bears here)
TNF Pick: I can't trust the Giants anymore especially on the road vs this improved Bears offense & their always solid defense. Bears by 13.— Seth Guttman (@RavenNation21) October 10, 2013
New York Giants 21 @ Chicago Bears 27: I got this one right and I felt very confident about it. This Bears offense has been just way too good for this mediocre Giants defense to contain it. Eli Manning and crew just seem too careless with the football and the Bears took advantage of every miscue. The Giants are now 0-6 and may start to think about some changes.
Seth's Against The Spread Picks of the Week:
Jacksonville Jaguars +26.5: This is a historic line that everyone will be betting on. I seriously think the Jaguars cover. The Broncos will get up to a huge lead early and in the 2nd half will resort to running the football. The Jaguars with Chad Henne are better than the Jaguars with Blaine Gabbert, and I think the Jags will score enough garbage time points to cover this.
Arizona Cardinals +10.5: Like I said I think this is a low scoring game. Even if the 49ers win this game, I doubt it's by more than a touchdown.
New Orleans Saints +2.5: This Saints offense has been amazing and the defense is much improved from last year. I don't think it's hard to see them winning by atleast a field goal.
That's it for this week. If you'd like to see me tweet about football during the week please follow me at @RavenNation21. I'd also be glad to answer any fantasy football questions you may have for me. Have a great Week 6!
