Week 1 is is finally here! Everyone celebrate, clap your hands, grab a cold beverage, and prepare for another fun season in the National Football League!
In this column I'll be making my game picks straight up. I'll also be picking the upset of the week and select my eliminator pool pick. For anyone who doesn't know what an eliminator pool is you can check out ESPN's here.
Week 1 picks (Bold indicates my pick):
Baltimore Ravens @ Denver Broncos: Broncos without Von Miller and Champ Bailey will struggle containing the Ravens fast offense. Corey Graham intercepted 2 passes in last year's divisional playoffs and he will pick off Peyton once again. Ravens win by 4.
New England Patriots @ Buffalo Bills: The Patriots have had a little trouble playing in Buffalo but that was with Ryan Fitzpatrick under center, who seemed to play better vs the Patriots. It's E.J. Manuel's NFL debut and the Patriots DOMINATE vs rookie QBs. Pats in a blowout.
Tennesse Titans @ Pittsburgh Steelers: The Steelers did lose a game last year to the Titans but the game was played in Tennesse. Jake Locker will not be able to shred the Steelers defense like Roethlisberger will do to his own. Steelers in a blow out.
Atlanta Falcons @ New Orleans Saints: This has been a growing rivalry in the past few years. The Saints don't lose very often at home, but the Falcons do play them very tough. The Saints win on a late second touchdown pass to Lance Moore to give Sean Payton a win in his game back.
Cincinnati Bengals @ Chicago Bears: The Bears are always very good at stopping the run, so if the Bengals want to win this game they will need to throw the ball. The Bears are very good at forcing turnovers and Andy Dalton will struggle in his first game of the year. Bears by 10.
Miami Dolphins @ Cleveland Browns: The Browns defense is a lot better than people give them credit for, and they will give the Miami Dolphins a rough time. Mike Wallace will be locked up by Joe Haden and Ryan Tannehill will throw 2 interceptions. Brandon Weeden throws only 1 pick and 2 touchdowns to lead the Browns to a 6 point win.
Minnesota Vikings @ Detroit Lions: The Lions defense is a mess and last year's MVP, Adrian Peterson, will run all over them. The Vikings defense puts pressure on Matthew Stafford all day and forces 3 turnovers. Vikings win by 7.
Oakland Raiders @ Indianapolis Colts: The Colts offense scores 35+ points and Terrelle Pryor throws 2 interceptions. Colts in a blowout.
Kansas City Chiefs @ Jacksonville Jaguars: The Chiefs run the ball down the Jaguars throat all game long. Jamaal Charles picks up 150 yards on the ground. The Jaguars offense struggles to move the ball at all. Chiefs by 10.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ New York Jets: Darrelle Revis intercepts Geno Smith in his return to Met Life Stadium. The Buccaneers will allow no offensive touchdowns on the day and Vincent Jackson will win the battle all game long vs his former teammate Antonio Cromartie. Buccaneers in a blowout
Arizona Cardinals @ St. Louis Rams: The Rams and Cardinals are two very similar teams. The Rams are more explosive on offense and on the other side of the ball will put a lot of pressure on the worst offensive line in football. The Rams take this one by 3.
Green Bay Packers @ San Francisco 49ers: In another Divisional Round rematch the Packers defense once again can't stop the running attack of the 49ers. The game is closer than last time as Aaron Rodgers picks on the 49ers only weakness; their secondary. In the end the 49ers win by 3.
New York Giants @ Dallas Cowboys: The Giants and Cowboys meet in week 1 for the 2nd year in a row. The Giants defense may be without JPP and Stevie Brown is badly missed in this game. Romo has all day to throw in the pocket and picks apart the Giant's suspect secondary. Cowboys beat the Giants in week 1 again by 7.
Philadelphia Eagles @ Washington Redskins: The Eagles fast paced offense with Chip Kelly greatly confuses the Redskins defense. Chip Kelly uses his college experience to shut down RG3's read option. Eagles win by 5.
Houston Texans @ San Diego Chargers: The Texans smother Philip Rivers the entire game. Rivers will be on his back three times as many as his team will be in the end zone. The Texans win in a blowout.
Seth's Upset of the Week:
Seatle Seahawks @ Carolina Panthers: The Seahawks are not a great team on the road. The Panthers front 7 will give Russell Wilson, Marshawn Lynch, and the Seahawks offensive line trouble all game long. Cam Newton connects with Greg Olsen for 2 touchdowns. Panthers by 10.
Seth's Eliminator Pick:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (vs New York Jets): I figure I might as well pick a team who I probably won't be picking too many times in the future. I decided on the Buccs and it doesn't hurt that they are facing the lowly Jets.
