Game 2 Ends in OT with a Kings Win, go up 2 Games in the Series
The Los Angeles Kings have once again came out on top in OT in these Cup Finals.
Drew Doughty opened the scoring in the first period when he carved into the Devils defense and scored a wrister about 8 minutes into the period. That would cap the scoring until Ryan Carter scored a gorgeous deflection goal off a Marek Zidlicky shot from the point to tie the game in the third period. Once again, we would be treated to OT hockey, and yet again, the Kings come out on top. Jeff Carter was the hero tonight, scoring on a gorgeous wrister from the slot area that Marty barely saw. The Kings now own a 2 game lead in the series, taking both games on the road, maintaining their outstanding road playoff record.
The series score would tell you that the Kings are severely outplaying the Devils, but this is actually not the case. Both games so far, the Devils have fought hard and have given the Kings the best competition they have faced so far in these playoffs. Another thing I've noticed is that Ilya Kovalchuk has looked a bit slow, and the 4th line has looked phenomenal for the Devils. I think if the Devils want to attempt a comeback in this series, they have to get more ice time for the 4th line, because they have played very well all playoffs. The Devils really need to come back and beat the Kings decisively in game 3 if they want to try to garner any sort of momentum. It also doesn't help the Devils that the next two games will be in Los Angeles, and the Kings are 4-2 at home in the playoffs.
It'll be interesting to see how the Devils react in game 3. As I previously mentioned, the Devils have played exceptionally well, but Jonathan Quick has been the Kings' Superman between the pipes. Game 3 will be on Monday at 8 PM on the NBC Sports Network in Los Angeles. How do you think the Devils will play in game 3? Let me know in the comments below.
