Anze Kopitar Ends Game 1 in OT
The Los Angeles Kings win a tight one to take a 1-0 series lead.
The Kings opened the scoring 10 minutes into the first on a goal scored by Center Colin Fraser. After this both teams played an even game, until the Devils fired back when Anton Volchenkov scored with 1:45 left in the second. This would cap the scoring for regulation, as the game went to overtime. Anze Kopitar would prove to be the hero of the night, scoring on a gorgeous breakaway move to beat Marty Brodeur and end the game.
The game was well fought and deserved to end in OT. There was no real winner in regulation, as both teams were very well matched. Both came out with a lot of energy and played hard the whole way through. Both goaltenders were on top of their games, and both teams played great defense. Jonathan Quick posted a .944 save percentage and proved he wasn't just a hot goalie- he can dominate a game, and make critical saves when needed. I was happy to see that between the two teams that there were only 3 penalties, 2 of them being committed by the Kings. This keeps the game flowing as well as it does and it's nice to see two teams play respectfully.
The Devils have to figure out Quick by the next game. Othewise, I don't see a way they can make a comeback in the series. If they get down by two games, I don't think they will be able to dig themselves out of that hole. But, stranger things have happened, and they do have Marty Brodeur behind the pipes. If anyone can save the team, it would be him.
